Murphy was recovered wandering alone near a rural drainage site after recovery personnel initially mistook his vocalizations for an injured animal.

The specimen is highly social and displays an immediate interest in nearby personnel. Murphy frequently approaches the walls of his enclosure when individuals enter the room and appears to respond positively to attention.

Despite possessing an unusually large mouth and several rows of sharp teeth, Murphy has shown no deliberate aggression. Most attempted biting appears exploratory rather than predatory.

Containment is maintained primarily due to Murphy’s tendency to consume anything small enough to fit inside his mouth.

This has included food, packaging material, several identification tags, and a portion of Recovery Agent Keller’s left glove.

Murphy should not be removed from his enclosure without supervision.
